Abstract

This study was carried out to compare the effect of dietary zinc gluconate, fructooligosaccharide andprobiotic on body weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency of broiler chicks. A feeding trial wasconducted with a total of 216 broiler chicks. Each treatment had 18 chicks with 3 replications. Thesupplementation levels of each treatment in the experimental diets were 0.20% for zinc gluconate, fructooligosaccharide and probiotic, respectively. The body gain of chicks fed feed additives significantlyincreased (p<.05) compare with that of control. Especially, the treatment with probiotic produced higherbody gain than other treatments. Average feed intake of chicks was not significantly different amongtreatments (p<.05). Feed efficiency of chick fed feed additives significantly (p<.05) improved compare withcontrol and the highest in the probiotic treatment. Therefore, the feed efficiency of chicks fedfructooligosaccharide, zinc gluconate and probiotic treatment were increased by 3.5%, 4.0% and 4.5%,respectively compare to that of the control. In conclusion, dietary feed additives tended to slightly improvethe body gain and feed efficiency. Especially the treatment with probiotic produced higher body gain andfeed efficiency among other treatments.
